The Fifth Conference of Linguistics is held at Al al-Bayt University

On behalf of the President of Al al-Bayt University, the Acting President, Prof. Omar Al-Ateen, sponsored the Fifth Linguistics Conference of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities under the title “The Perspectives of Linguistic Research in the Twenty-First Century" in attendance of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Mohammad Al-Harahsheh.

The Dean, Prof. Mohammad Al-Khatib, confirmed that this conference is distinguished by the diversity of linguistic topics in the fields of phonetics, grammar, language acquisition and computing, discourse analysis, as well as semantics and meaning. He added that there are distinguished manuscripts related to this conference which were published in cooperation with Al-Zaytoonah University in the Jordanian Journal of Humanities and Social Studies.

Prof. Omar Al-Ateen stated that Al al-Bayt University organized the conference to advance knowledge and scientific research believing that serious scientific research represents evidence of the presence of universities in the human and civilized scene. He pointed out that these conferences build human knowledge and develop knowledge achievements.

The editor-in-chief of Al-Zaytoonah Journal, Prof. Alaa Al-Din Al-Gharibeh, explained that the publication of the conference's manuscripts in the Jordanian Al-Zaytoonah Journal for Human and Social Studies, after being peer-reviewed by a group of senior scholars, comes as a result of the fruitful cooperation between the two universities.

In his participants' speech, Prof. Sa'eed Al-Zubaidi stressed that Arabic should be taken care of and protected from the impurities of contemporary linguistics, and that it is our duty to advance and preserve its mission because it is the language of the Holy Qur'an.

The Head of the Arabic Language Department, Dr. Nart Kakhon, indicated that the conference was held with the participation of a group of Arab scholars from Iraq, Morocco, Oman, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Tunisia, Palestine, Qatar and the UAE over a period of two days. At the end of the opening session, the Acting President of the University handed over the shields to the supporters of the conference in attendance of a large group of deans, professors, students and local community.

The first session of the conference was chaired by Prof. Mohammad Al-Droubi, with the participation of Dr. Mo'ammar Munir Al-Ani from Iraq, Dr. Bushra Al-Belqasmi from Morocco and Dr. Walid Ali Al-Haj from Jordan. The second session was chaired by Prof. Zaid Al-Qaralla. The participants, Dr. Rashid Al-Husseini from the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Nada Al-Rifai and researcher Haya Al-Shafei from Jordan took part in this session.

Prof. Mohammad Al-Ghamdi chaired the third one in which Dr. Mohammad Al-Taqi from Morocco and Dr. Nada Jaradat from Jordan participated. The fourth session was chaired by Prof. Sa'eed Abu Khader, with the participation of Dr. Ashwaq Al-Najjar from Iraq, Dr. Hassan Malik from Morocco, Enayat Salahat from Palestine and Bassam Al-Adamat from Jordan.

On the second day of the conference, the first session was chaired by Prof. Nayef Al-Golan. The scholars, Dr. Zaid Al-Qaralla from Jordan, Dr. Asma Kanani and Dr. Hassan Al-Yamani from Morocco and Dr. Kefaya Mazkour from Iraq participated in this session.

Prof. Saad Haddad chaired the second one which was attended by Dr. Saeed Abu Khader from Jordan, Dr. Abdul-Jabbar Al-Sharafi from the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Rahma Barbara, Dr. Suad Al-Ayachi from Morocco, Dr. Reham Jaradat, Dr. Ahmed Al-Nawafleh and Dr. Mohammad Al-Khatib from Jordan.

The third session was chaired by Dr. Kholoud Al-Amoush with the participation of Dr. Mohammad Al-Ghamdi from Saudi Arabia, Moayyad Al-Shara', Dr. Mahmoud Al-Deeki from Jordan, Dr. Sa'eed Al-Zubaidi, Dr. Mohammad Al-Munjjid from the Sultanate of Oman and Dr. Zainab Ibdah from Jordan.

The fourth session was also chaired by Dr. Kholoud Al-Amoush with the participation of Dr. Issa Al-Masry from the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Zainab Abul-Naga from Egypt, Dr. Shefaa Al-Muqabala from Jordan and Dr. Mustafa Qanbar from Qatar.

In the closing session which was chaired by Prof. Mahmoud Al-Deeki, the participants expressed their highest thanks and gratitude to His Majesty King Abdullah II - may God bless him - and his faithful Crown Prince, appreciating his positions in defending Jerusalem in international forums.

The participants concluded with a number of recommendations included the following: the conference shall be hold periodically, the next conference shall be entitled “Applied Linguistics Perspectives", and the achievements of scientific research in applied fields shall be invested in a way that serves Arabic for education and learning as a language for science and knowledge. At the end, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts distributed certificates to the participants.
