Al-Bayt University participates in the Fifth International Scientific Conference at Nalut University in Libya

Dr. Khader Eid Al-Sarhan, Head of the History Department at the College of Arts and Humanities at Al al-Bayt University, participated in the activities of the "Fifth International Scientific Conference: Scholars, Figures, and Landmarks of Libya: Jabal Nafusa and Zuwara as a Model," which was organized by Nalut University in cooperation with Yefren Municipality and the College of Education in Yefren (Al-Zintan University), held in the Libyan city of Yefren on October 25 and 26, 2026.

On Sunday, October 25, 2026, Dr. Al-Sarhan presented a remote research paper titled:

"The Intellectual and Political Links of Jabal Nafusa (2nd-5th AH / 8th-11th AD) through the Book "Siyar al-A'imma wa Akhbarihim" by Abu Zakariya al-Warglani."

The study discussed the strategic civilizational and intellectual role of Jabal Nafusa during the early Islamic centuries, refuting the notion of "regional isolation" promoted by some historical narratives, emphasizing that the mountain was a vital artery and a scientific, commercial, and political link connecting the Arab East with its West. The researcher adopted a comparative and critical approach in deconstructing multiple historical narratives and comparing Ibadhi, Maliki, and Fatimid sources, highlighting the impact of organized scientific journeys to Basra, and the diplomatic and military role in resolving conflicts and securing trade routes and pilgrimage paths.

The paper also shed light on the unique institutional system represented by the "Azzaba" system and the associated architectural and defensive style, including fortresses and castles, which enabled society to achieve legislative and social stability and protect its cultural identity.

At the conclusion of his participation, the conference presidency and the scientific committee expressed their deep appreciation for the valuable scientific contribution of the researcher from Al al-Bayt University and the qualitative enrichment he provided to the sessions and discussions. This participation comes within the framework of the university's faculty members' keenness to actively participate in international forums and strengthen ties of cooperation and academic exchange with sister and friendly universities and research institutions.
