Al-Qudah lectures on the beginning and end of the lunar month an astronomical vision

The Faculty of Sharia, in collaboration with the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering, held a cultural event entitled “The Beginning and End of the Lunar Month: An Astronomical Vision" presented by Dr. Ali Noah Al-Qudah, Head of the Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing Department. Dr. Al-Qudah demonstrated the compatibility of science with the jurisprudential opinion in proving the beginning of the lunar month. He indicated that this compatibility is based on understanding the mechanism of the moon's movement and knowing the moment, time and types of connection, how to calculate the moon's shapes, conditions of sighting, mechanisms and means of astronomical observation, when to accept the testimony of seeing the crescent at the beginning of the month from the scientific point of view, when to reject the testimony, and the criteria followed in seeing the crescent.

The lecture was attended by Prof. Ahmed Al-Qaralla, Dean of the Faculty of Sharia, Prof. Hani Al-Amoush, Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, and a large number of professors and students. Dr. Al-Qudah answered the attendees' questions and inquiries about the validity of the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan for this year displaying the accuracy of the opinion of the Fatwa Council in Jordan with science in determining the beginning of the month on Sunday, April 3 At the end of the lecture, the date of Eid Al-Fitr for this year was calculated, which was determined astronomically on Monday, May 2, 2022.​​​
