A university lecture for students on "Psychological and Social Empowerment of Women" within the plan of the Center for Sustainable Development and Women's Empowerment. The lecture aims to empower women and improve their reality in social issues at the university, in line with the center's mission of training and guidance in developmental and pioneering roles, and towards promoting a positive community culture and a supportive national environment for their role, with the goal of empowering women and enabling them to take their place and exercise their natural rights in various fields in society.
The center, in cooperation with the Faculty of Educational Sciences, organized a lecture in the Al-Bakhit Auditorium at the Faculty of Business, with the presence of the Vice President of the University for Community and International Affairs, Professor Dr. Hani Akho Arshideh, the Director of the Center, Dr. Hatem Al-Masaeed, and representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The lecture was given by Dr. Asma Al-Ibrahimi, a faculty member at the Faculty of Educational Sciences and an expert member of the International Women's Organization in London, on the psychological and social empowerment of women. During the lecture, she discussed the concept of psychological and social empowerment, highlighting its importance in enhancing the ability to face circumstances and challenges and achieve psychological balance away from pressures.
Al-Ibrahimi pointed to four main pillars of psychological and social empowerment: self-efficacy, self-confidence, self-esteem, and the ability to make decisions. She also emphasized that emotional release contributes to enhancing self-efficacy and overcoming traumas, and that self-esteem, polite boldness, and speaking the truth are essential factors in building self-determination.
She explained that social empowerment for women comes from external and internal sources, through awareness of self, rights, and duties, stressing that women's empowerment in the Jordanian family has historical roots and is not a new phenomenon.
She also pointed out that psychological ability is reflected in active participation in community work, noting that the most prominent mechanisms of empowerment include: education, awareness of rights, and social support through socialization institutions.
In his comment on the lecture, Dr. Akho Arshideh affirmed the importance of women's role in society, pointing out that they have always been behind the great achievements at the family, institutional, and national levels.
At the conclusion of the event, which was presented and managed by Hanan Shdaifat from the Center for Sustainable Development and Women's Affairs, an extensive discussion took place between the lecturer and the audience, addressing many issues related to women's empowerment.
