A health seminar at the College of Nursing on the dangers of smoking and ways to combat it.

With the participation of the Mafraq Health Directorate and health experts to raise awareness of the dangers of smoking and promote a culture of quitting, a health seminar was held at the Faculty of Nursing on the harms of smoking and ways to combat it.


On behalf of the President of the University, Professor Osama Nusier, the Vice President for Community and International Affairs, Dr. Hani Akhu Arsheida, sponsored the health seminar organized by the Faculty of Nursing entitled "The Harms of Smoking, Combating It, and Its Impact on the Respiratory System," in the presence of the Director of Mafraq Health, Dr. Faisal Makahele, the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Muhammad Al-Brahma, and a number of faculty and administrative staff and concerned parties, in the Al-Bakhit Amphitheater at the Faculty of Business.


Dr. Hani Akhu Arsheida stressed the importance of the efforts made by the Ministry of Health, represented by the Mafraq Health Directorate, in providing support and guidance to smoking patients through specialized clinics, pointing to its significant role in confronting diseases, especially respiratory ones, in addition to the efforts of health sector personnel during the Corona pandemic.


For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Dr. Muhammad Al-Brahma, pointed to the academic and humanitarian role played by the Faculty in serving the community, by preparing nursing staff capable of health education, prevention, and health promotion, in addition to its therapeutic and professional role, stressing the University's pride in its partnership with various health and academic institutions to build a more aware and healthy society.


In turn, the Director of Mafraq Health, Dr. Faisal Makahele, explained that this seminar is the result of continuous cooperation with the University, stressing that health does not only mean the absence of disease, but represents a state of physical, psychological, and social integration, pointing out that the Health Directorate's strategy is based on the principle of prevention is better than cure.


The seminar and activities coordinator at the Faculty, Dr. Shirin Hamadneh, stated that organizing this event within the Health Week embodies the University's role as a platform for change and enhances partnership with civil society institutions and the Mafraq Health Directorate in a way that contributes to enhancing the impact of health and social programs.


The seminar, which was attended by the Assistant Dean for Quality Affairs, Dr. Tamader Shdaifat, and the Head of the Department of Maternal and Child Health, Dr. Iman Harb, included dialogue sessions presented by Dr. Maan Ahmed Alimat and Ali Al-Khawaldeh from the Mafraq Comprehensive Health Center, where they pointed to the efforts made by smoking cessation clinics by providing treatment, follow-up, health education, and psychological and behavioral support to visitors, in addition to the free tours and services that contribute to alleviating the health and economic burdens resulting from smoking. They also explained that the clinic operates three days a week from morning to evening and deals with patients in complete confidentiality, in addition to providing several types of treatments and specialized mechanisms for dealing with different cases in a way that helps patients quit smoking.


The seminar witnessed an intervention by the head of the Friends of Diseases Association, Professor Ali Al-Tarman Al-Khalidi, during which he talked about the health and financial damages of smoking and its negative effects on individuals and society.


At the conclusion of the seminar, which included an exhibition of health products and awareness-raising medical devices that contribute to supporting smoking cessation efforts, the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Muhammad Al-Brahma, honored the participants and supporters with certificates of appreciation.
