Under the patronage of the President of Al al-Bayt University, Professor Dr. Osama Nusier, lawyer Dr. Cinderella Marhaj presented a lecture entitled "Criminal Justice and International Security Cooperation (Legal Perspectives on Reality and Anticipation)" in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Dr. Samer Al-Dalalah, a number of academic and administrative staff members in the faculty, and university students and those interested in legal affairs.
During the lecture, Dr. Marhaj discussed the developments the world is witnessing in light of the technological revolution and digital transformation, and their repercussions on the criminal justice system, stressing that cross-border crimes now pose new challenges to legal and security systems in various countries, which necessitates strengthening international cooperation and developing legal and security confrontation tools.
She reviewed the most prominent issues related to international security cooperation, including combating organized crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and cybercrimes, pointing to the importance of international agreements and their role in exchanging information and evidence and enhancing coordination between countries to prosecute criminals and achieve justice.
Marhaj affirmed that the success of international cooperation requires clear legal frameworks and effective mechanisms for coordination and exchange of experiences between judicial and security institutions.
Dr. Marhaj also discussed the challenges facing the implementation of some international agreements, the disparity in legal systems between countries, and its impact on investigation and trial procedures and the extradition of wanted persons, stressing the importance of establishing specialized units and enhancing legal and security training to keep pace with global developments.
The lecture touched upon the role of globalization in increasing opportunities for communication and cooperation between countries, and at the same time, the new security and legal challenges it has created that require more comprehensive and flexible responses, in order to achieve justice and maintain security and stability.
In turn, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Dr. Samer Al-Dalalah, emphasized the importance of this lecture, which comes within a series of workshops, lectures and seminars held by the faculty with the aim of educating students, raising their academic level, and enhancing their legal knowledge in various contemporary issues.
Al-Dalalah added that the issue of international criminal justice is one of the thorny and intertwined issues, and that its application at the level of the world still faces many challenges and obstacles, which requires more efforts and coordination between countries and relevant institutions.
Al-Dalalah stressed the importance of security cooperation at the national level within countries, then at the regional level, leading to comprehensive international cooperation, as one of the basic pillars for achieving international justice, combating cross-border crime, and overcoming obstacles that hinder the application of the principles of justice and the rule of law at the global level.
At the end of the lecture, an extensive dialogue took place between Dr. Marhaj and the audience, during which she answered questions and inquiries about international criminal justice and contemporary security cooperation mechanisms.
